WALKING ACTIVITIES
For those who love hiking we can suggest some routes through the mountains that will reveal another magnificent aspect of the island of Paros.
Walking by Byzantine Path (Lefkes – Prodromos)
The path starts from the center of the village of Lefkes in the southern part. We cross the mountain Rachi 7-8km to the southeast where the “Brovalma” is the peak of the mountain Kapsalo. From there it is downhill towards the village of Prodromos. The walk takes 1, 5 hour and it is better to do it early in the morning or in the afternoon when the sun is not very strong. It works also from Prodromos to Lefkes.
Walking from Marpissa to Lefkes
On the west of the village of Marpissa and at the first crossing that leads towards the monastery of Aghiou Georghiou, we turn to the right. A dirt road leads us to Lefkes through the mountains. The first stop is in “Afouklaki”, a wonderful small green valley with natural water springs. At its beginning are two united small churches with a beautiful garden where we can rest and enjoy nature.
After about 10km. of walking up and down hills we reach the church of Aghia Kiriaki at the top of Lefkes village. The view is breathtaking. After we reach the windmills, we start downhill towards the village of Lefkes. This hiking route is strictly for experienced in walkers, because of the distance and the level of difficulty and effort that is needed. This trip can be done also starting from Lefkes heading at Marpissa, or by using a jeep or motocross bikes.
Walking from Naousa to Kostos
Starting from the cross road from Naoussa, Kantinelia area, that leads us towards Kato Marathi. It’s exactly 4km walking next to an old “ximaro” (drained river). When we reach some local farms and houses, we meet a cross road and the old pit of Matzoro (dated 1952) with marble basin (where used to water their animals). At this point we turn left and walk all the way up to the hill to reach the church of Agia Pakou, on the top of the main road that turn towards Kostos Village.
It’s a quite easy route, that takes 1,5 hour and it can be combined with a visit to the Yria Ceramics, that is situated exactly 2km away from Agia Pakou.
SEA SPORTS
Paros and the other Cycladic islands don’t have the infrastructure for athletic activities. The existing ones are just for the youth of the island. For sea sports the situation is different. The winds and the organized beaches give unlimited choices to interested tourists. Water skiing, diving, wind surfing, Kite surfing, sea games and also cycling are some of the activities we can suggest.
Over the last few years a lot of diving and surfing schools have opened, the best known are the ones in Pounta (opposite Antiparos), in Santa Maria and in New Golden Beach.
