Although Athens is a city it has 9 beaches awarded with the “Blue Flag”, an award with strict criteria about the cleanness of the sea and the beach, the good organization and the protection of the coast. At the city coast there are also 3 marines in the service of all visitors.

Organized Beach with entrance fee: 
Grand Beach in Lagonisi, Asteria Beach, Astera Vouliagmenis Beach, Vouliagmenis Lake, Attica Coast of Vouliagmenis, Voula’s Coast A’ & B’, Varkiza’s Coast, Beach of Agiou Kosma and Alimos Beach.

Beach “Asteras Vouliagmenis”: The beach in front of the Luxurious hotel Astir Palace. Easy access by bus or private car. Sea Sport activities at the hotel.

Voula’s Coast A’: A partly sandy and partly pebble beach in the area of Vari. Easy access by bus and of course with private car. Sport activities available.

Varkiza’s Coast: A large organized beach in the area of Vari with 3 tennis courts, 2 swimming pools, 1 beach volley & basketball court, restaurant, bar, shops and open air cinema. Easy access by bus from Athens center or Piraeus and of course with private car.

Free Beach (No entrance Fee):
South Side of Attica (wider area of Athens): Bati & Eden beaches in Paleo Faliro, the 2nd small bay in Vouliagmeni, Anavissos, Eden & Thymari (Thyme), Sounion, Legrena of Sounion and the island of Patroclus.
East Side of Attica: Keratea or Kakia Skala beach, in Porto Rafti are the beaches of Avlaki, Agia Marina, Erotospilia. Other beaches you find in Vravrona, Rafina (Marikes & Kokkino Limanaki), Nea Makri (Zouberi or Mati), Marathon (Schinias, Karavi, Ramnountas & Sesi).
North Side of Attica: Beaches in Oropos area like Agii Apostoli, Kalamos, Nea Palatia, Pigadakia & Chalkoutsi).

West Side of Attica: Beaches of Porto Germanos, Psathas, Strava and Schinou.

Beach of Avlaki: Sandy beach south of Port Rafti in the area of Markopoulo, 30 km from the center of Athens. Reachable by bus (KTEL, itinerary to Porto Rafti) departing from the Park “Pedion tou Areos”.
Breskiza: Sandy beach in Nea Makri close to the main road.
Mavro Lithari (Black Rock): partly sandy partly pebble beach on the 47th km of the sea side road Athens – Sounion. The beach is surrounded by rocky mountains which protect it from the strong winds. It’s named after the black road found in the middle of the beach.
Pounta Zeza: this beach is located between Lavrio Port and Sounion almost 57 km from the center of Athens. Reachable by bus (KTEL, itinerary to Lavrio) departing from the Park “Pedion tou Areos”. It’s a sandy beach with short plantation and trees around, it isn’t organized and there are no restaurants or hotels around.
Schinias: Long sandy beach in the area of Marathon close to the ancient tomb and almost 42 km from the center of Athens. Popular to windsurfers, restaurants, taverns and hotel units around.
Karavi (boat): 500 m away from Schinias beach.

In Attica prefecture (wider area of Athens) operate in total 6 marines with 3.000 boats capacity.
