Sikinos is one more cycladian island that still preserves almost untouched its traditional heritage and  authentic character.

Its name is connected to the very ancient myth about Sikinos, king of island Limnos. He was Thoantas's son, who arrived chased to this island, which then was known under the name of Oinoi because of the vineyards abundance. Thoantas settled there and finally named the island  after his son.

The island has an oblong  shape and is located between Ios and Folegandros. It is almost 7 nautical miles  far from Ios and about 10 from Folegandros. Its extension is 41 klm² and its  population up to 300 inhabitants. In the northwest section there is a huge  steep precipice 300m above the sea, while the southeast side is more even and  has little vegetation. Generally, its soil is rocky and infertile, with the  exception of a small section covered by olive trees.

The few inhabitants of the island are occupied with the traditional agricultural works as well as apiculture, so the island is known for its products,  the excellent thyme  honey and the fine olive oil.

Tourism is a very new occupation for the island that still shows a restrained growth and progress. Thus, it attracts visitors seeking a tranquil destination.
